...Been a while since I've been on here. Just throwing something up to say I've finally got together a Python driver to pull stats from a Renogy DCC50S using a USB modbus adapter/dongle plugged into a Raspberry Pi.
The python module is fairly modular so just pulls from the dongle and spits out...
...spec to the thread starter but a KISS version with a Roamer 230Ah lifepo4 seatbase battery, two 175 watt flexy panels, a 2kW inverter, a DCC50S mppt/B2B charger and an actual Victron 30A smart charger, no flashy displays just a shunt on the leisure battery negative driving a simple LCD...
...can't put similar length leads on each panel rather than a short and a long leg each time but due to the incoming voltage limit of the first DCC50S I had to put the panels in parallel the present V3 DCC50S now takes up to 50 vdc in.
It's not the prettiest install but I'm a shorty so can only...
...as you can get will certainly carry you over the dull weather days and maybe you can take some of your kitchen appliances with you for their first holiday abroad? :geek:
Just read the above and the Renogy DCC50S B2B has the BT option not the smart shunt... didn't say I was an expert 🤕
...set up as everybody tends to run different stuff in their van but in your case with the battery going under the driver's seat then your DCC50S would ideally be under there too along with a battery main isolator to separate the battery live from everything including the incoming starter...
...week I will have:
I have a fogstar drift 105ah leisure battery and charger, a wired campers 1200w pure sine wave inverter and am due a renogy DCC50S 12V 50A DC-DC On-Board Battery Charger with MPPT + BT-2 Bluetooth Module due at some point
I plan to have two reading lights with usb, two...
...wiring layout as installed here, pretty snug and can see maybe installing a PC fan on the front of the seat base cover I made to help the DCC50S heatsink lose heat... we'll see how that fares come summer.
The wires are 4 guage from the starter 75A fuse onwards and between the leisure...
...prioritises PV but I wondered if it was getting 5 or 10a from PV would it then use DC-DC for the remainder up to 50a. Ie is it better than the DCC50S which we know can only do 25a from the SB is there's any PV coming in.
The user manual talks about some clever charging logic but doesn't...
...and it looks way over complex, mine was a fag packet type design/ install and definitely KISS but has the Roamer 230Ah battery, a Renogy DCC50S, two Renogy 175w panels, 2kw Renogy inverter, Sargent ec160 (came with the Redline conversion) and a Renogy 500A shunt with display so I have an idea...
...to fill in some of the gaps as to where you've got space and where you haven't.
I've got a Roamer 230Ah under the drivers seat with a Renogy DCC50S B2B charger, assorted fuses, a shunt and the battery isolator on the base front.
I'm a shortie so have enough room behind the seat to mount the...
That's reassuring to hear. Thanks.
I've found the thread where Dellmassive mentioned using the Victron smartcharger with the Renogy DCC50S.
I read it as though with engine off and the Victron Bluesmart 12v/25A hooked up to ehu the Renogy DCC50S will charge the starter battery to full and then...
Thanks for the advice and comments. SWMBO has approved the new budget so looks like we will now ditch Sterling/Victron combo and join Team Renogy with a smart 100ah lithium batteries and the DCC50s with a BT dongle.
Yes. You need to connect the suitcase panels direct to the dcc50s, and not use the suitcase controller.
Most people install a quick disconect under the seat for this purpose.... So you can add in panels as needed when camping or other.
...the starter battery when driving and if you haven't got solar and an mppt (this can be a combination unit with the B2B charger like the Renogy DCC50S) then a stand alone smart battery charger fed via any 230 Volt socket fed from the EC155 mains voltage MCB side when on hook up... yep, more...
Looking at the Renogy DCC50S and my solar panel and it seems they are incompatible

New leisure battery install here.
I've ordered a renogy lifepo 50ah (will likely add a second in future), a renogy DCC50S charger with MPPT (will add a solar panel soon), and the BT module.
Should I also get the renogy battery monitor? Or another brand? Or will the BT app do all the same stuff...
...I've taken the above diagram as my template (thank you Raw_Porridge and those that suggested the amendments to it).
I've got the Renogy DCC50S rather than the RENOGY IP67 50A DC-DC
And my battery is the Renogy Pro-12V 100Ah Deep Cycle Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery w/Bluetooth (with the...
