I chose a tailgate van, when it was suggested that it offered shelter when it rained, compared to barn doors.

It was made from some double glazing rubber but I suppose an innertube would would maybe ?

I have the exact same question. When I had the rubber bings under the rail, it did not sit flush to the roof. I too am concerned with water ingress so unsure how to resolve
