    Rust under rear registration plate

...here from a thread I started on VWCC forum over rust spots on my OSR quarter panel at the wheel arch (2019 T6 Ocean). In my case I am sure it's zinc inclusion and looking at your damage I'd say its very likely the same thing. If you google it you'll see its an extremely common problem :(...

    Imperfection in paintwork

I don't think thats rust. I believe it is called zinc inclusion. The right of the 2 is typical of that. Like a tiny mountain surrounded by lots of tiny ones lol.

Repairing of rusty patches forming on sliding door paintwork

I think I’ve got a long battle on my hands regarding this paint imperfection / zinc inclusion issue. Thoroughly cleaned my T6 last week and noticed the imperfections. Thanks to the info on this forum, I looked up the zinc inclusion issue and took my van to VW Van centre (Cleckheaton ) where a...

    Bak-rak: Anyone Using Or Tried??

...we DO have a phone to call. We do ring back but often end up just leaving a message. Our main product is the base-rak (stainless steel or zinc plate) of which there are hundreds around and which are universally loved. We have never had one broken in normal use. ~These are in stock and the...

Rust on rear panel in front of the wheel arches

Did you get anywhere with vw on this one? My van is less than 2 years old, 13k miles on it and what looks very much like a zinc inclusion has appeared. Van is generally pretty well looked after and never noticed any stone chip there before, although I'm pretty sure I know what the answer from vw...

Fitting 2nd Row Seat Brackets so I can move my Kombi Bench back

...to live. @david173 reminded me that Vangear do a floor mounting base for a table - there is a picture on their website that shows how they are held in place - J bolts. https://www.orbitalfasteners.co.uk/products/m8-x-100-hook-bolt-nut-bright-zinc-plated So I might have a go at my own version.

What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Haha. Appreciate the sentiment. How smooth do you think these welds need to be? I’ve used an angle grinder to get them pretty flush, but not perfect. I guess they’re hidden below the trim and the floor.

What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

The zinc based primer chemically helps prevent rust. Smooth hammerite just looks similar to body paint. If you have black hammerite a couple of thin coats will be fine. If pedantic just get an aerosol of colour mixed. In its basic form, you’re just protecting the bare metal from rust. If its...

Fitting 2nd Row Seat Brackets so I can move my Kombi Bench back

This is the thread I’ve been looking for. Really keen to move my bench back and fairly happy to have a crack at it. I have a T6 factory kombi, just to confirm - the floor mounts can be drilled out and bolted through a reinforcement plate that’s already underneath? And this can be accessed with...

    Roof Rail Leak Free Fixing.

Definitely go stainless, I picked up all the bits I needed from toolstation. They sell 6mm stainless steel bar in 1m lengths which is plenty for fixing the rails. I also got the nylock nuts from there too

T6 zinc inclusion paintwork defect... VW taking no responsibility!

...but the road was very long and took up a lot of my time. Would I do it again? Probably not. It was a temporary solution because the same zinc inclusion spots are back with a vengeance and Volkswagen did state that they couldn't guarantee they wouldn't come back in the future and I couldn't...

    A science question?

If you look at roofs of older houses with flashings/soakers around chimneys, you'll often see patches directly below - like this for example : This is due to zinc reacting with the rain, preventing lichen growth. I imagine it's a similar thing with the van.
