    Sump Removal

Hi all, Just in the middle of replacing the crank shaft oil seal whilst doing the timing belt. I was hoping to do the oil pump belt at the same time assuming I could remove the sump. Unfortunately it looks like the most ridiculous design in that you can't get the sump off on my model without...

Sorry mate, yes without removing the gearbox. What’s in the way on your van? Could you remove the prop or is it the transfer box?

    Sump Removal

Thanks for asking Phill, unfortunately mine is 4motion. 🙄 I assume you meen "without removing gearbox, not sump" as to do the oil pump without removing the sump would be some serious Jedi shit.

    Injector copper washer lost!

You could drain the oil and and remove the sump to see if it has made its way there. Good luck 🙏🏼

    T5.1 low oil pressure (caab)

Darkside Developments and Retro Resus are a couple. The sump strainer is just that and will only remove the larger particle, there is a chance that the oil filter got clogged and went into by-pass. You could remove the sump and use Plastigauge to evaluate the wear on a main bearing.

Uninstall DSG when change timing belt

See her at 15min48. Most garages do it with out removing the sump or DSG box. But the official vw book way is to remove the sump so that the lower end of the new crank seal is correctly sealed with sealant.... Due to the slim chance of getting any sealant in the engine with the "push on and...

    Sump Removal

The Corteco crank seals do have a seal on the bottom so if you do have a go without removing the sump try and get a Corteco seal.

    Sump Replacement

Does anyone have any experience with removing the sump? I need to replace mine (T6 CXGB) as it’s cracked. I’ve had a look and it seems there are x3 bolts holding it to the gearbox and multiple 10mm bolts around the sump connecing it to the block. X2 of these bolts look difficult to reach from...

Flywheel slot for sump bolt removal, dsg

I'm trying to remove the sump on my 67 plate 204 dsg 4motion. I'm turning the crank to reveal the slot in the flywheel but the bolts are still barely visible. I can get my long reach 5mm allen key in the socket and slacken them off, but there's not enough room to undo them all the way because of...

    CXEB PCV blocked / broken

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I believe both crank oil seals are leaking and I’m not particularly looking forward to sorting them out, I’ll be removing the sump to do it properly. I’ve been looking for an excuse to buy an endoscope for a while now, too. I’ve got a price for the cam cover from...

    Sump Removal

Nothing obviously different about the 4 motion. Just an incredibly small hole to try and get the two sump bolts out through at an angle. To be fair it looks like the box is in the way more than the dm flywheel.

    Front crank shaft seal leaking

You see videos of people fitting the seal without removing the sump, but it appears they have to locate the seal at an angle to ensure the sealant doesn’t foul the sump edge too much. That can’t be good for the actual seal or the mating surface with the sump. Surely the proper way is to drop...

Yeah I read this somewhere else so its on order. Obvious solution to this problem but it's almost like two wrongs to make a right.

    Front Crank oil seal

Evening all, I have read many a post on here about front crank seals leaking and have been to the dealers etc but not really found anything with people doing it themselves? I'm an experienced mechanic, not with VAG group but hey! So, my question is, I have looked at the procedure on Erwin to do...

    Front Crank oil seal

I have used the Corteco crank seals without removing the sump as the have a seal across the bottom. You could add a smear of sealant if you wanted. I usually use the black loctite gasket sealant.
