Return leg - split mid way with a stop at friends. Roads were very quiet and l managed it in 10 and half a hours including a 30 min detour to and from highway to the friends house for a 3.5deg dip in the mountain river.

Turns out it was the EGR pipe behind the engine - it had a small split. AA found it and VW will repair it for a cost of about 2Mil ! :D

Have a Search on EGR pipe, the split pipe that you have has been superceded with a better design. If you have the correct tools and ability there is no reason why you can’t renew it yourself.

They're sold in complete sets and no retailer will put themselves out of pocket splitting a set. Contact the manufacturer in Germany, buy an entire set, see if any local suspension specialists can overhaul the unit, or revert to stock are your options.

These are legal, but I guess they don't have to conform to the same pedestrian safety rules as cars and light commercials.

Probably could glue it but another layer might split. Depends if you want to risk it.

There is an existed link which comes from the fuse box underneath the battery that goes into the seat base. The split charge relays located in the seat base. So you can take your feed for your Orion excess from that point and just remove the factory split charge relay unit. Post some pictures...
