...very helpful when trying to match summer/winter wheels of different diameters, together with different tyre options.
Please see image below of a stock size (235/55/17) vs the Falken Wildpeaks in 235/65/17, and also vs a 235/60/17 option, (Cooper Discoverer ATT) which is closer to stock.
235/65/17 seem to be an almost perfect match for van coded for 17" wheels. If you were 16" from new then the speedo will under read with the 235's. You can change the settings via VCDS but this appears to be a one way ticket on the T6.1...
I'm sure that the 225/65/17 would be ok but may still...
After LOTS of research, I went for 235/65/17 on the basis that 245/65/17 would likely rub at the rear of the rear wheel arches. With these on there is only about a 10mm clearance, with the 245's almost 100% certain the heat gun and some fettling would need to be done.
Hi Big Yella.. you posted this back in ‘23 and it’s now 2025 but let’s see if you respond! I’ve just taken delivery of Kato’s with 235’s on and I have standard suspension still. What are your thoughts? Will they turn?!?!
@TallPaul_S I'd be really interested to know what K Number you used to change the calibration for 2356517 tyres? My van came with 16 inch wheels so will probably need recalibration with 225 6517 AT tyres - thank you.
I have a T28 and have decided on the Falkens as best choice. I'll be buying new steels for the van. What are views on the difference between 17" 235/65 and 18" 235/55 either with this tyre or others. I've read there can be quite a difference in handling and comfort? Any views appreciated.
New boots fitted! t32 SWB on stock suspension
Navis Navis Dura-AT – 17s in Anthracite
235/65/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3WA AT 108H, these have improved the ride and no sound difference at all.
will have a set of devonports available if anyone is interested
...of wheel/tyre packages that look okay to me on willtheyfit, but want to get an idea if they are suitable, or if one would be better than the other:
Option 1. 17" 8.5J ET34 with 235/65/17
Option 2. 17" 8J ET30 with 235/65/17
If I could benefit from the accumulated wisdom, it would be...
Did your van come with 16" wheels originally? Standard 16's are a slightly smaller diameter than the standard 17's and the van will be coded accordingly. 235/65 should be virtually perfect on a 17" chassis but will under read a touch on a 16".
The Cross Climates (CCs) are cracking tyres having had them previously. I'm currently running Cooper Discoverer ATTs (mild AT tyre) in 225 60 17 and considering reverting back to the CCs in 225 6517 as 98% of my driving is on-road and from experience, the CCs are more than capable on...
Hi I have been running them for 6 months now , with wildpeaks all weather types on 235/65/17 . When first fitted I thought they needed a sproget ring but they didn’t. Road noise is ok and grip in snow and flooding has been perfect
And just a heads up, my van came with the HESS wheel carrier, it was a tight squeeze to fit a part worn 2356517 General grabber in there, anything bigger your have to deflate to fit
In a nutshell, they won't rub and the speedo won't under read!
You can certainly get away with 245/65 but they may rub, especially if lowered (that's a another subject...).
Depending on wheel spec you could probably make a 235 rub to be fair but most transporter specific wheels seem to be...
Damn I just saw this response. I'm liking the way these wheels look and I've got the same van as yours T30 T6.1.
Will the wheels fit without spacers on standard 235/55/r17 tyres?
Wheels: Rogue Alloys LCX 17” Satin Black
Tyres: Falken Wildpeak 235/65 r17
Suspension: Standard (T32) suspension
Next step is to plan a trip to @CRS Performance hopefully for a bit of added comfort and handling
What wheels? The offset will be why or if your tyres rub.
I've got 245/65 R17 wheels on 8x17 et35 wheels, only had the tiniest bit of rubbing on the rear arch at the back on one side until a few hundred miles in. Ride height is about 20mm down from a std van.
