Check EGR rear and front pipes for splits or leaks, very common. Here’s a search on forum regarding the pipes: Search results for query: egr pipe
Could be a clogged EGR or something else as well but pipes are easiest to rule out.
...3 weeks after we got back from 1500 mile trip to the alpes. Jumped it, and ran it about for a bit. Then next day engine coil light and limp mode.
Got turbo and egr faults. Had it diagnosed today and egr mapped out just to see if the turbo fault kept re occurring.
No other faults or issues...
I was definitely advised new D model EGR, but should have asked for more details. Was just so pleased when they changed it. They did send me photos though
Got a quote from another dealer for an EGR flush of £408.00 they also quoted £1709.00 to replace EGR, I am going to ask the first dealer to quote to replace EGR.
I'm afraid the Santa doesn't understand the issue because in his sledge the EGR cooler is bypassed during the season.

I had the same code recently, garage I took the van to reckoned readings didn’t suggest a clogged EGR, on further investigation he found a split in the EGR to exhaust manifold rear pipe which he replaced along with new gaskets. He did show me the part complete with split.
Time will tell but so...
To conclude this post/issue...
I bit the bullet and bought the genuine VW cooler, bolts and gaskets (just the heat exchanger, not the EGR valve unit) £310 delivered.
Removed the old unit, separated the cooler and rigged up a bench test: it failed: it was leaking somewhere inside.
Rebuilt the...
As per Dellmassive's post, what engine have you got in your Shuttle?
The EGR is supposed to recycle (some of the) exhaust gases before they go through the DPF. I also believe that it has a job in controlling temperature of the gas and prompting DPF regen. A lot of people will tell you to have...
I spoke with a pro egr delete guy called Matt at UKCC auto techs. I'm still not convinced it's the best idea, but he was sure it wouldn't have anything other issues with adblue or dpf as he says they are unrelated.
Said he's done 100s. Sales pitch most likely . I'm Brighton based
VW Preston said nothing, they don't care as the is no warranty now. Had the egr delete done when a fault light came up saying egr low flow. It was done at 120k by Chris @Dav-Tec, it's just a remap but with no extra power just the egr written out. The new @Dav-tec van map is so much smoother...
I'm also noticing similar with my 2019 Kombi. EGR pipe replaced last October. Drove it all winter with no codes appearing. Now bit of warmer weather & P0401 code is back.
