IMO The excess oilconsumption issue is blocking the EGR system throwing the Low flow fault, which can be an issue even on a healthy engine. (short runs Etc)
things to check
The cause(s) of the excess oilconsumption needs to be identified.
piston rings / bore
valve stems/seats

Thanks for the reply @Vents ……
As with all my previous vehicles I check my levels frequently ( oil water …) and add when required….and now use a fuel additive to help clean and raise the Cetane level hoping for cleaner burn ….it’s not a work vehicle so I try to avoid short trips ..so when a...
Take it to VW, tell them your roughly putting in 1l per 1000miles and ask them to perform a "excessive oilconsumption test" they will want it in initially to measure the current oil and fill to their test level. Get you to take it and drive for at min 600miles (do 1000), then take it back for...
Hi all,
Bought my bitdi in 2020 at 40k miles(67 plate) Few months after not doing much driving i had engine (EGR) lights on (P046C00, P040100). Thought it made sense as i did not drive enough and no motorway miles really. Then i started using it mainly on motorways and i had to have a flush...
Beware of the 180bitdi. On the euro 5 (65 plate) this is the fitted engine. We’ve done quite a few engine replacements on these as have VW for excess oilconsumption. I would look elsewhere unless it has had an engine replaced.
VW's considers engine oilconsumption above 0.5 litres/1000 km excessive.
I believe it's just a calculated value based on actual/metered air intake + EGR valve position + fuel injected (combustion expanding exhaust volume).
Are your values under no load conditions - van at standstill?

...oil feed and induction causing the oil to be pulled into the induction.
A worn cylinder bore / piston / rings will cause excessiveoilconsumption and cause excessive crankcase pressure which will act on the turbocharger oil drain and reduce the oil flow through the turbocharger bearings...
The EGR system is not self cleaning, perhaps you are confused with the DPF which is an emission system but not related?
The EGR unit (valve and cooler) have a finite life due to getting clogged with carbon.
The cooler will begin to clog from day 1, imagine a set of tubes gradually getting...
Qudos on the DIY job. I believe the 204ps version is a bit more involved (and more expensive to buy). The garage I used to replace mine (VW van dealership) took the whole front of the van off to gain access!
Either way, I htink there is a distinction between engines that require a new EGR (I...
Interesting thread started by @Ian Blewett today - good of him to be so helpful , this may shed a little more light on what happened. I need to keep on digging as it looks like there may be a known problem that's being suppressed. Must admit it's all rather frustrating that I have yet to feel...

From what I remember there was corrosion in the aluminium EGR heat exchanger which created aluminium oxide, the very same substance that is used in many abrasive papers. Not surprisingly the cylinder bores / pistons were destroyed causing excessiveoilconsumption.
I would reject the entire bloody van. Yes , DPF is more than likely to be damaged by excessiveoilconsumption. Ask for DPF and all exhaust sensors to be renewed as part of the deal.
Not far off with 200000 miles life. The T5 I've just bought needed a new dpf that I've had done .154000 miles but lots of short journeys in its last year. Also had a knackered egr that probably didn't help.
...but just a calculated number based on “normal” engine characteristics and not taking into account any abnormalities like excessiveoilconsumption. Based on my observations the counter seems to be based on fuel consumption and driving cycles – longer runs, less accumulated ash.
According to...
That’s not good to hear and sorry to read about your bad times.
It maybe worth totting up all your down time, lack of business, fuel to and from garage, excessive fuel usage, oil you have put in it etc etc. They may back down when they see all these. Don’t forget to ensure fresh full warranty...
Hi all
Just to give an update of the situation with the excessiveoilconsumption Transporter T6 204 4 motion manual.
The van has been in the garage for three weeks and after multiple tests ordered by VW UK the conclusion is that a new engine is required.
The garage JCB Group Eastbourne has...
Folks, some news,.
I have been told that our national VW HQ has made "group reclamation" of excessive fuel consumption of several EU6 T6s. I don´t know if this is exact term in english. The bottom line is that even we have only few of these T6´s up here, our HQ have them too many with owners...
