My van stopped doing this recently, so every time I reverse I choke on exhaust fumes. Any advice what isn’t working properly and what part might need replacing?
Thanks for signposting this. Appreciate it. Do you think I’m looking at the EGR pipe in my pictures? My apologies I’m a complete novice so know NOTHING about engines!
Mine same a couple of weeks ago with service and MOT - failed for split EGR pipe - MOT description said putting exhaust fumesincab - so I’m glad they spotted it - I thought it was just doing a regen as did a lot of them before as short journeys then a few longer - funny now does not do as many!
Suspension / wobbly drive would be my guess as well.
But check for split egr pipe although most report exhaust smell in the cab.
Heated windscreen was a pretty good guess as well, I don’t have one so don’t know how visible the grid is.
Fumesincab wasnt great either

that was the EGR flex pipe at the rear of the engine.
a git to get off, but all covered under warranty . .
.
It is frustrating when every other post with fumesincab goes something like this:
A) I can smell fumesincab
B) that will be a cracked EGR pipe, go check
C) yes, I nipped out and checked and I spotted it straight away. It's now been fixed (ouch, them new pipes are expensive!)
Or something...
Checked search. Could not find anything. As stated above our T5 just bought has the following problem. 'Gear lever moving up and down on accelleration and decelleration'. According to me it should be a faulty enjin mounting. Also have exhaunt fume smell in the cab. This i also put down to the...

you sure its not a split EGR pipe in the engine bay? (final exhaust fuses shouldnt smell very bad due to the cat and dpf)
but the EGR pipe splitting is a very common issue . . . and yours is a 2018 so prime candidate.
I've had mine done on bot 2018 and 2017 vans...
Yeah, there's a whole thread here

I've found keeping the heater off means I don't get fumesin the cabin, I can use it with Aircon switched on and it's fine, just not without Aircon switched on...
Thanks, it's not noticeable in the cab but the fumes are noticeable when I have the window down. Would that also account for the loss of power? Certainly some similarity with the cracked EGR, seems a popular issue :(
