Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

I’ve got a December 2020 Vw t6.1 kombi. I purchased it when it was a year old so I don’t know what happened in its first year but I’ve had nothing but issues with the ‘reduce oil level, go to workshop’ warning for the past 2 years. I have been to my local Vw dealership a number of times and...

Welcome to the Forum, there's plenty on here about oil dilution and DPF issues!

Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

From reading this, I would certainly want to change the oil if it has been diluted by fuel. To not do so risks excessive engine wear by the sounds of it. So why are dealers just siphoning off the excess? @Ian Watt, what did VW assist say?

T6.1 oil level warning: Reduce Oil Level!

Diesel fuel dilution criteria according to Miller: 2% by volume - caution. 4% by volume - failure. 4% of 7.4L = 296mL. Safe to say that oil is being diluted beyond recognised safe limits and causing accelerated engine wear.

Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

Have a Search with ‘dilution’. Plenty of content on the Forum. If your oil level is rising without anybody adding oil there are two possibilities: 1. Coolant contamination - emulsified oil, obvious. 2. Fuel dilution - not obvious at all and with a 2% diesel contamination limit before accelerated...

Top end tapping noise on cold startup

You don’t, safe to say that there will have been some dilution and as 2% is the safe limit who knows. Fuel dilution will probably kill the turbocharger and oil control rings before anything else. If the top end had excessive wear it would be noisy all the time and probably more so when the oil...

Oil level too high warning… AGAIN

The oil is being diluted by either coolant (very unlikely) or diesel (very likely). There is a good deal of information on oil dilution, it's not uncommon and nor is it just a VW issue, it's plagued a lot of JLR Euro6 diesel engines too...

Coolant level low. What to top it up with?

Just had a lot of work done and checked fluid level this morning and it’s low. Would it be ok to top up this amount with deionised water?cambelt and pump just done can’t see a leak so assuming just air. Just didn’t want to dilute it to much and of course the garage is closed today.

2% is the threshold for Caution so it’s definitely time to change.

    Coolant leak - Investigation ideas

Miller oil analysis, about £50, will give the fuel dilution and other contaminants in the oil. Data entered in the test info’ must be accurate. Syringe and 1.5m of hose that will fit down the dipstick is needed to take the sample.

Reduce oil level and Oil dilution

...do regeneration at standstill is getting oil diluted with fuel." I imagine that for the majority the steps that can be taken to avoid oil dilution and possible repercussions of that, are of great value. Thanks again, you have added a lot of useful references within this post which I feel...

    Seeking non-VW advice

all diesel engines used for little mileage will dilute the oil in the sump with diesel. I would change oil every 6 months. However engine not up to temperature will not help with dpf. Starting euro 6 you ll have oil diluted in the sump, clogged dpf, egr failure due to not warming up enough the...

T6.1 too much oil warning - how worried should I be?

You need to check the oil level yourself when you get this warning. If the level has risen, then your oil is being diluted with diesel, which is not good for the engine. If the oil level has not risen, then it’s more likely to be a software issue. Pete
